I have been contemplating a Google Chromebook.
Those that have them, rave about them – especially the “pixel” version at around £1200 UK.
Not an insignificant amount.
Here’s what I like about them:
- Basic model is cheap.
- Stuff is available from wherever there is an internet connection.
- It’s Google.
Here’s what I don’t like about them:
- It’s Google. If you trust Google with your data, your email, your digital life, then go for it. I don’t.
- Must have an Internet connection. Not always available around here, so no data.
- The “pixel” version is too pricey.
Overall, not for me. I just stopped using a “walled garden” ecosphere (Apple) so jumping in to another one is probably not the smartest thing to do…
But, dammit, the idea has got me thinking how I could do this without google…
I’m going to look into the possibilities.
More later.
